Project Title: Humanitarian Aid for Vulnerable Communities in Gedo, Somalia and Mandera, Kenya

NAPAD with funding from Foreign Federal Office of Germany (FFO) is implementing a six month project in Mandera County, Kenya and Gedo region, Somalia, with an approximate reach of 20,000 beneficiaries.

 Project Statement

The project will offer emergency assistance to drought-affected communities and build resilience for the poor and vulnerable pastoral, agro-pastoral and riverine communities in Mandera and Gedo region, Somalia.

Project Immediate Results

  1. Reduced hunger and malnutrition through increased access to food supplies to 1,400 households equating to 8,400 persons (4068 female and 2712 male) for 3 months
  2. Reduced animal morbidity through livestock treatment namely 1,200 households with combined livestock of 36,000
  3. Improved water infrastructure and reduced cost, through installation of solar powered pumping, operation and maintenance of strategic livestock catchment and construction of elevated water storage tanks.
  4. Improved income for 200 female-headed households through provision of business startup capital.
  5. Increased income to 150 riverine farmers who utilized 15 irrigation pump sets with fitted accessories, 3600 kgs of maize seeds, 2700kgs cowpea seeds, 2100kgs of fodder grass seeds and 3000 liters of subsidized fuel donated by the project
